Our advice on how to charge your E-Bike battery properly

Zoom sur une batterie en charge

Charging your electric bike battery should be done very carefully. Charging your E-Bike battery correctly is part of battery maintenance. Taking these precautions will extend the life of your battery. Here are some instructions to follow...

Connection

  • Before charging, make the connections from the battery. After charging, disconnect the connections from the mains.
  • Unplug the charger when not in use
  • Avoid using crocodile-type clips and instead use protected plugs with different terminals. In all cases, check that the polarities match.
  • Before connecting the battery to its circuit of use, check this one

Charging operations

  • Check the intensity of the charging current
  • Leave a charged battery to stand for a sufficiently long time before putting it back into service on the bike (e.g. 2 hours).

Charging location

  • Carry out charging in an appropriate, ventilated room (complying with standard NF C15-100).
  • If the chargers are in the room, provide protection against possible shocks
  • Lay charging cables in a fixed position near the battery to be charged
  • Place the batteries on concrete or wood supports coated with a chemically resistant coating
  • Provide a safety station comprising a shower and an eye-wash station
  • Clean the area frequently

Why does the charge level indicated on my electric bike keep changing?

Why does the charge level of your battery keep changing as you use your electric bike? The charge level shown on your display is based on the voltage of your battery at a given moment. This voltage decreases when you use the electric assistance. The higher the level of assistance you use, the faster this voltage will decrease. When you stop using the assistance, the voltage of your battery goes back up and the charge level indicated by your console also goes back up.

Does my battery charge when I'm not pedalling?

There are now a number of brands of bikes on the market that can recharge your battery on the way downhill.

Despite the usefulness of this system, energy recovery is low compared to the price of this technology. However, most commercially available batteries do not have this function.
