How to estimate the autonomy of an E-Bike battery?

Autonomie batterie vélo électrique

The autonomy of an E-Bike battery is at the heart of the use of your electric bike. You need to make sure your battery is properly recharged and maintained to improve its life and autonomy.

External factors affecting electric bike battery life

Battery life is a relative term. In fact, it is defined by numerous factors, both internal to the battery and external to it:

  • Cell quality
  • Battery voltage and amperage
  • Total rolling weight (rider weight+cycle weight+luggage weight)
  • Your pedaling frequency (Number of crank turns per minute, which can be calculated as follows: Wheel diameter x Pi x No. of Chainring teeth x No. of Sprocket teeth)
  • The motor
  • Type of bike (mountain bike, city bike, VTC...)
  • Type of tires (MTB, VTC, City Bike, Road Bike)
  • Level of assistance used
  • Height difference and type of terrain used

Battery amperage - runtime

All these characteristics can greatly vary the autonomy of your battery. At Doctibike, here are the average ranges we give for the amperage of the batteries we sell:

  • 10 Amp battery: 45 kilometers of range
  • 13 Amp battery: 60 kilometers of range
  • 15 Amp battery: 70 kilometers of range
  • 20-amp battery: over 100 km range

To optimize the range of your electric bike battery, follow our guides to charging and maintaining your battery.
