Description

Why test your electric bike battery?

Most of the problems encountered on an electric bicycle are caused by a faulty battery:

  • Reduced range
  • The battery cannot hold a charge
  • Assistance cuts out suddenly
  • Lack of motor power

When should I have my battery tested?

There are several reasons why you should have your battery tested by a professional:

  • If you decide to resell your electric-assist bike: a faulty battery is not visible to the naked eye, so having your battery tested will provide proof that it is working properly and will enable you to sell your ebike for more.

  • If you haven't used your E-bike for a long time: you need to make sure that your battery is in good condition before you set off again, otherwise you risk damaging it further.

  • If you notice a lack of autonomy or abnormal performance: a failure is sometimes due to a simple fuse, it is possible to change only this element!

How long does a diagnosis take?

Your battery will be out of action for around 10 days, including transport to and from our workshops. This time may vary depending on the diagnostic orders to be processed.

Details of the report provided:

This report includes the battery charge and discharge curves, the data table and the remaining battery life.

Lead time: Due to high demand, lead time is estimated at around 2 months.

Technologies supported: Lithium, Nimh, Lead

Appropriate recommendations: change of fuse on a bicycle battery, soldering of cables, reconditioning of the battery or purchase of a new one.

What are the steps involved in diagnosing an electric bike battery?

If you would like to have your electric bike battery diagnosed, the first step is to add the diagnosis to the shopping basket by clicking on the I buy button and placing the order.

Once you have placed your order, you will receive an e-mail with a colissimo label and the information sheet sent to you by Doctibike.

The third step is to carefully pack the battery, charger and keys in a sturdy cardboard box and go to a post office to drop off your parcel.

And after the diagnosis ? What happens next?

Once the diagnosis has been carried out, Doctibike will send you the details of the diagnosis report and advise you on the next steps to take:

  • Repair of the E-bike battery: Doctibike technicians can replace a faulty spare part with a new one and repair your electric bike battery

  • Reconditioning: Doctibike replaces the entire cell pack inside your battery with a new cell pack. At the end of the reconditioning process, your battery will be as powerful as it was in the early days

  • If neither of the above solutions is possible, Doctibike will advise you to buy a new electric bike battery. We have a large catalogue of E-bike batteries on our site. You're bound to find the battery you need.

Special case:

To check that the battery's electronic board is still working, please ask us about the following points:

- Is the battery charging and discharging correctly?

- Have any power cuts or intermittent problems been detected?

- Are there any errors on the display/console?

- Does the display show the correct charge level?

Brands of bicycle batteries that cannot be reconditioned:

Some batteries are protected by industrial patents, which makes it difficult for our technicians to intervene. Batteries from brands such as Bosch, Shimano, Brose, BMZ and Yamaha cannot be reconditioned. However, our technicians can carry out a diagnostic on these brands to determine the condition of the battery.
